Crypto Asset Brokerage From Uber’s Ex-CTO Goes Public on Canadian Exchange

Imagen
By Marie Huillet      Crypto asset brokerage Voyager Digital — co-founded by the ex-CTO of Uber — has gone public on Canada’s TSX Venture Exchange. The news was announced in an official tweet from Voyager on Feb. 11. Shares are traded under ticker symbol VYGR.V, as a company blog post outlines. The listing comes following the completion of a so-called reverse takeover — also known as a reverse initial public offering or backdoor listing. Last week, Voyager had announced that its merger with former shell company UC Resources Ltd. was nearing completion. The moved allows the crypto brokerage to qualify as a TSX Venture Tier 2 Company. Generally, a reverse takeover occurs when a privately held company merges with a publicly traded company — thereby bypassing at least some of the bureaucratic scrutiny involved in the process of going public, including regulatory issues and due diligence. Upon completion of the deal, the buyer gains automa...

ETC Wallpaper - Ethereum Classic Cryptocurrency By Adrian Zmudzinski | Cointelegraph     The Ethereum Classic 51 percent attacker has reportedly returned $100,000 to cryptocurrency exchange Gate.io, a post on the official exchange’s blog reports on Jan. 12. The company further noted that they tried contacting the attacker but didn’t get any reply until now, and that they do not know the reason why the funds have been returned. The exchange declared: “If the attacker didn't run it for profit, he might be a white hacker who wanted to remind people the risks in blockchain consensus and hashing power security.” A white hat hacker is a hacker with a strong professional ethic who uses his hacking abilities for good and not for personal gain. The jargon file , a staple of hacker culture, further explains: “The term white hat [stands] for an ally or friendly security specialist.” On Jan. 9, Gate.io published their analysis of the 51 percent attack, fi...

Brian Armstrong, CEO Of Cryptocurrency Exchange Coinbase, Becomes A Billionaire

Imagen
By Nathan Vardi | Forbes While more than $600 billion of cryptocurrency wealth has been wiped out in the last several months amid a market meltdown, the man who facilitates a big chunk of the nation’s cryptocurrency trading has become a billionaire.  In late October, Brian Armstrong, the CEO of cryptocurrency exchange operator Coinbase, oversaw a financing round in which the company he cofounded raised $300 million at a valuation of $8 billion. At that valuation, Armstrong’s stake in Coinbase is worth an estimated $1.3 billion, after applying a customary discount for privately held companies. In January, Forbes had estimated that Armstrong’s net worth was between $900 million and $1 billion.  It is possible that Armstrong’s personal cryptocurrency holdings have taken a financial hit due to the plunging value of bitcoin, ether and other cryptocurrencies over the last several months. Armstrong cofounded Coinbase in 2012, and the compan...

Report: Blockchain and Crypto Industries See Growing Demand for Talent

Imagen
By Ana Alexandre A recent study by recruiting site Glassdoor published Oct. 18 found that crypto and blockchain-related job opportunities significantly increased in the U.S. this year, despite the slump in cryptocurrency prices. In the course of its analysis, Glassdoor examined a large number of online U.S. job postings on their site containing keywords related to blockchain, Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency. To ensure more accuracy, the company also included more general blockchain-related terms, while excluding jobs from third-party recruiting firms. To estimate salaries, Glassdoor used its “Know Your Worth” instrument. Per the report, as of August 2018 there were 1,775 unique blockchain-related job openings in the U.S., while at this time last year there were 446 similar job ads, which represents a 300 percent year-over-year increase. The highest proportion of job openings is concentrated in 15 cities, including New York City and San Francisco, wit...

Why 'stable coins' are no answer to bitcoin's instability

Imagen
New cryptocurrencies such as Tether may be pegged to the dollar, but they have big flaws By Barry Eichengreen W hile the mania for cryptocurrencies may have peaked, new units continue to be announced, seemingly by the day. Prominent among the new arrivals are so-called “stable coins.” Bearing names such as Tether, Basis, and Sagacoin, their value is rigidly tied to the dollar, the euro, or a basket of national currencies. It’s easy to see the appeal of these units. Viable monies provide a reliable means of payment, unit of account, and store of value. But conventional cryptocurrencies, such as bitcoin, trade at wildly fluctuating prices, which means that their purchasing power – their command over goods and services – is highly unstable. Hence they are unattractive as units of account. No grocer in their right mind would price the goods on their shelves in bitcoin. No worker would want a long-term employment contract that paid them a fixed number of thos...

Imagen
Billy Bambrough Cryptocurrencies, namely bitcoin, bitcoin cash and ethereum, are becoming accepted in the Washington D.C. halls of power — evidenced by the member of Congress and the chair of the House Judiciary Committee Bob Goodlatte's crypto holdings.  Goodlatte owns between $17,000 and $80,000 in cryptocurrency,  according to his annual financial disclosure . The filing was made in May, ahead of new rules from the House Ethics Committee requiring members of the House to disclose their ownership of cryptocurrency in annual reports, the same way they would disclose any other asset. The new rules also require lawmakers to report cryptocurrency transactions within 45 days, as is given for other financial transactions. Goodlatte’s son, Bobby Goodlatte, is  reportedly  an investor in cryptocurrency wallet provider and exchange Coinbase, though the details of Bobby Goodlatte's investment are not public. Goodlatte is also a member o...
