Bank of Spain: Bitcoin Unable to Solve Problems of Traditional Payment Systems

By Ana Berman An official from Spain’s central bank , the Bank of Spain (BDE) believes that Bitcoin ( BTC ) is unable to resolve the problems faced by major payment systems. BDE’s Deputy General Director for financial innovations and market infrastructure, Carlos Colesa, gave his opinion on the leading cryptocurrency in a report published on Sunday, Feb. 17. The study dubbed "Bitcoin: a solution for payment systems or a solution in search of a problem?," is marked as an “occasional paper,” according to Cointelegraph en Español . A file locking program called H-Ant has allegedly infected certain Antminer models in China and if the ransom is not paid the software aims to destroy the infected machine. New Ransomware Called H-Ant Attacks Mining Rig Operators in China Ransomware creators have found a new target to attack in the form of bitcoin mining operations. Unlike most traditional ransom attacks, where victims have to obtain coins in order to pay the ransom, victims of the H-Ant ransomware have cryptocurrencies on hand to pay the malicious attackers. This is known by bitcoin mining companies and the authorities of the different countries of the world and therefore they have set to work, in order to drastically reduce the amount of energy to be used. An example of this reality includes Soluna, a Bitcoin-mining company, which plans to start the construction of a 36 megawatt wind farm in Morocco in January 2019. According to a company statement, southern Morocco enjoys the ideal conditions to produce wind energy, which will help relieve the country’s electricity system and deem cryptocurrency mining much more comfortable. Soluna acquired the rights to a 37,000 acres of land, with over 900 MW of wind power potential available for development, so it does not rule out the storage of the remaining energy in devices as soon as wheather conditions are not fully effective. New Samsung 7mn 7LPP Chips Could Reduce Crypto Mining Energy Use By 50%

  By Bitcoin Exchange Guide News Team Innovative Samsung Chips Could Be Beneficial for Cryptocurrency Mining Activities Samsung started to produce a new 7nm chip known as Low Power Plus (7LPP) process node. According to the company, the new chip is able to reduce energy consumption by up to 50 per cent. The information has been released in an official press release on October the 18. The chip will be produced by Samsung Foundry, and it will allow a 40% increase in area efficiency, with a 20% higher performance of 50% power reduction. The new process is based on extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology. That means that the chips are denser and energy efficient.
